So let's look further at the big
R. Resistance is a biggie and can
show up in myriad ways including:
* procrastination and
avoidance
* lack of clarity and
focus
* physical ailments
* missing or arriving late
for appointments, deadlines, etc.
* misplacing and/or losing
things
* edginess
So if change is a given and
resistance is a natural by-product of change, what do you do? The answer to this
varies for each one of us. Keep in mind the things you already know
that work for you, in times of change and resistance, as you read the following
recommendations.
1. Acknowledge and accept
what is taking place. And remember acceptance doesn't mean agreement or that you
like what is going on. Acknowledgment and acceptance means you see things for
what they are; for example, "My workplace is doing more with less. I
acknowledge that I am concerned about how this is going to affect me." "I
accept that I am feeling afraid because of what these changes may mean
..." Or, "I sense resistance to ___________
because..."
2. Ask yourself the following
questions either when journaling, in meditation or contemplation,
while taking a walk, spending time in nature, or some other reflective activity.
. what is
behind the resistance? Is it: fear? Helplessness? Lack of understanding
of my role and/or the process involved with the changes taking place? What
are my underlying beliefs?
. what are
the signs and symptoms showing up in my outer life? how am I feeling about
________? Remember, it is okay to acknowledge, express and feel your feelings.
Not doing so is what often causes stress, physical ailments, etc.. Hint: one
clue to look for is the language you use, i.e., things are stalled, or
I don't know..., or what should I do? or when will they
make up their minds? or I am sick and tired of them always changing
things...--you get the idea now.
. who is
speaking (or acting out)? Note: sometimes it is the scared child part of us that
is afraid of the change and what it represents.
. how have
I handled and moved through similar situations/change/resistance in the
past? What works best for me, especially in my current work/life
situation?
. what might I
gain (or learn) from this experience? what is working in my life/work
now?
As you listen to your
responses the above questions, begin to think about what you can do
with the information, how you might handle things that come up, anticipate
what if scenarios, keep breathing. And trust yourself, trust what you know. This
too shall pass.
3. At work and in your personal
life, talk to the others involved with or affected by the
change. Ask questions. Seek
clarity on what is taking place. Our n-ego (negative ego often acting as the
chatterbox) can run wild with assumptions. You'll find that clear, timely,
honest communication is one of the best antidotes to resistance.
4. Take care of yourself
personally-physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually- and professionally.
Self manage. Treat yourself with compassion, respect and kindness. Take
responsibility for yourself, your attitude, your choices, your actions. And hold
others accountable for their agreements and areas of
responsibility.
5. Take time to plan
things. And also debrief at the end of each day/week/significant event.
Asking yourself questions like: "What went well?", "What would I do
differently the next time?" leads to continuous improvement. It also gives you
more control over outcomes.
Awareness of how you respond to
change, along with how resistance may show up, is a gift you give to
yourself.

of Awareness,

LEAP, Life Energy Alignment Process, is a dynamic process for
facilitating transformation and positive change. Why get certified in LEAP?
"LEAP is in alignment with how I naturally work with people for personal or
professional growth and development, whether individually or in groups; in
private sessions; or through programs at their place of work. LEAP allows me to
expand my tools and resources to better assist clients in opening to
